'coco kiss'
a tribute to her life

(2005 - 2007)

Judge
Colina Grant
"I feel drawn into the whimsy by the composition and handling of detail of this tonal study. Love it!"

Mara Marston - Boni Awarded Third Prize

Diana Garth - President of Oatley 101 Society of Artists

Daryl Melhan MP Member for Banks, Patron of the De Haan Gallery, Bankstown Art Society

Freda Surgenor - Awarded First Prize

Patricia La Rossa - Awarded Second Prize

Those who know me, can imagine how thrilled I was to receive an award for this work.

There were many exceptional works from the 150 works entered by many talented artists.

This award I dedicate to my gorgeous girl Coco, she lost her life quite unexpectedly last year leaving me devastated under unusual and unfortunate circumstances.

I drew this shortly after she died as I felt compelled to pick up my pencil in order to help me with my grief. I am also sure that she was with me every step of the way.

Freda Surgenor won First Prize for her Acrylic work Moored In Shallow Water which is testament to her dedication and skill in creating these realistic works.

Mara Marston Boni won Third Prize for her work "Morning Light"

If you have a moment please click on the links to see their works.

It was really wonderful to meet Freda and Mara last night and to stand beside these accomplished Australian artists was a thrill unto itself... Freda and i discovered each other on Redbubble before realising we were members of the same art society.

Highly Commended was awarded to Julie Rose Bowen

Commended award was won by David Lake.

Congratulations to all.

Freda Surgenor is also featured in this month's August 2008 Issue of Australian Artist magazine. Congratulations Freda on an exceptional feature!

Here pictured with me, is another artist who i had the pleasure of meeting and a fellow countryman of Italy from the Basilicata Region (a small world it seems & ci siamo fatti anch' una bella chiacherata in Italiano!)

Marco Stigliano also a member of the Bankstown Art Society.

Patricia, it's exciting to read about your award (Coco is smiling from somewhere!), the workshops, and all of your activities. So much great art downunder, and you're right in the thick of it! Keep up the wonderful work, and get ready to teach your own workshops one of these days. :)

The awards keep on coming. I know how special Coco & Coco's Kiss were to you. It seems so fitting for you to get this award. I agree with Nick, she must be up there smiling. Im so happy for you. Everthing seems to be happening at the same time and I think there is more to come. Congratulations and keep at it. L

Wow!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's fantastic!! I am so proud of you! I was awestruck when I first saw the image you emailed me of 'Coco Kiss' last year - a piece extremely deserving of such an honour. I am not surprised at your success - you are so talented. You should be very proud of yourself. I know Coco is proud of you. Perhaps she's been looking out for you all this time, your own personal guardian angel, your muse.

CONGRATULATIONS again on being an Invited Artist - that's incredible!! I can't wait to see what you will come up with for that exhibition. You must be so excited! Your accomplishments in such a short time are mind boggling. You're a star on the rise, that's for sure! You deserve it so much.

You have been a wonderful friend since we met, and it finally feels as though everything is coming together for us both. I am sure you will continue to astound me with your talent and warm my heart with your friendship for many years to come!

Lots of love,
Amy

Nick...You cannot imagine my surprise and excitement on the night. I thought they were calling out someone else whose name was Patricia, it wasn't until Diana Garth read out 'Coco Kiss' that I realised it was me. I will remember this forever!

I am having a wonderful time with attending demos and workshops. It is as you say "so much great art downunder", and very exciting to play a very small part in it. (Coco it seems is still here by my side)

Sandy... Thank you so much. I'm very happy to be able to share in this by means of the computer, and equally, hearing about and sharing in the news of others I have come to know thus far. Just think, two years ago it was a world not available to me. How wonderful is that!
Love,
Patricia

L...Thank you so much. Having met Coco, you know what a sweetheart she was!
What an unbelievable month of wonderful surprises.
Catch you soon.

sweetmango... This portrait of us I believe is a magical one. First the Viewer's Choice and now the Second Prize.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and support.

Mimi... Thank you, "my most heartfelt work" you got that in one!

Amy... Thank you so much. Our support of each other means so much to me. I believe it is stated somewhere here in my blog...
When you have the support of family and friends you feel as though you can do almost anything!

I will definitely keep you posted on the exhibition in November.
Need to get off cloud 9 now and back to the painting pronto!
Love to you,
Patricia

Ti saluto affettuosamente
Marco

Caro Marco,

x

Cate, Susan, Steph, Mike, Renate, Thank you .

Thanks Jared. It is fantastic isn’t it! I checked on your blog yesterday… and your blog was left unscathed by the ‘sitemeter crash’...not that I knew this at the time! You almost got a frenetic Patricia emailing every which way asking for your technical expertise.

Thank you Hasmig.

Marion...I agree totally with you here in that it was an exhibition of a ‘top standard’ with many exceptional works. I believe I mentioned this here and also to Diana on the night. So many deserving of an award.
Thank you for your congratulations, hope to see you at 101 during the year.

Ingrid...Thank you

Cheryl...Thank you so much. You are fantastic! I don’t know where you get all your energy from! I see I have lots to catch up on here with regard to your portofolio… be over in a mo!
